The Ecology Graduate Student Association (EGSA) is the student-run body of the UC Davis Graduate Group in Ecology (GGE), one of the largest and most prestigious ecology graduate programs in the world. EGSA serves to support our students and represent them in the GGE, UC Davis, and beyond.
The EGSA meets regularly to talk about relevant issues such graduate student resources, curriculum changes, and mentorship. Quarterly meetings are an opportunity to share information on recent happenings and hear about graduate student affairs campus-wide. Meetings are run by the EGSA co-chairs and are an open forum for all students to bring comments, suggestions, and concerns to the table. Additional information can be found in the EGSA bylaws. Voice of the Students EGSA serves as a focused voice for graduate student concerns to the faculty and administrative offices of the GGE. We take an active role in suggesting and implementing change within the GGE. Two students elected by the EGSA sit on the GGE Executive Committee to represent the opinions of Ecology students. We have student representatives on the Awards, Curriculum, and Diversity committees, and students also serve on the Admission Committee. Student involvement is one of the key elements that makes the GGE work! EGSA also represents the GGE in the Graduate Student Association, UCD’s graduate student government. EGSA sends 6 representatives to monthly GSA meetings where we have a voice in graduate student governance. Support and Service EGSA works to serve the community. Students do public outreach and science communication at Picnic Day, UC Davis’s campus-wide open house, and in many other venues. Our annual Mardi Gras Charity Gala supports local non-profit organizations. Research Communication EGSA members organize and host an annual Graduate Student Symposium in Ecology, with research talks and posters from graduate students of any UC Davis graduate group engaged in ecological research. Fun We have a weekly happy hour, orientation and spring parties, and other assorted events throughout the year. Join us! All GGE students are invited to attend and initiate discussion at EGSA meetings. EGSA is your opportunity to get involved and shape your graduate group, please take advantage of it. |
