Join us for the 14th Annual UC Davis Graduate Student Symposium in Ecology! When: February 5th, 2021 Location: Virtual, further details TBA Registration Information: Registration is now open! It's best if you can register by February 1st (late registrations accepted). Click HERE to register! Folks from ALL departments as well as prospective students are invited to attend, and all graduate students are invited to present their research in any area of ecology. The GSSE is a unique and valuable forum for sharing ideas across programs, departments, and labs, and for fostering new connections and collaborations. It is also a great opportunity for graduate students to get comfortable presenting to a broader ecological audience. The GSSE is a free event! Virtual format: The 2021 Symposium will be the first entirely virtual symposium in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. We will miss sharing bagels & coffee, happy hour drinks, and face-to-face quality ecologist time with our fantastic attendees. HOWEVER, our team is working hard to make the most of this unusual situation and put on a FANTASTIC virtual event! We know that our GGE community is as strong, curious and supportive as ever during this crisis time, and we look forward to sharing the exceptional scientific efforts and creative endeavors to which we have all been dedicated while socially distanced. We will update with further details about the virtual platform(s) soon! To Submit an Oral Presentation or Poster: You do not need to present research in order to attend; however, presenting at the symposium is a great way to get feedback in a low pressure environment! Presentations should be 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes for questions. Poster submissions will be electronic, but there will be a virtual poster session with opportunities to discuss your posters and mingle with colleagues comparable to an in-person poster session happy hour. To submit a presentation or poster, enter your title and abstract with your registration no later than February 1st (early submissions encouraged!). Additional presentations may be accepted after the deadline if there is space left in the program. Prizes will be awarded to the top presentation(s) and poster(s) based on audience vote. Eco-Art and Photo Contest: Submit your ecologically-inspired work to the art/photo contest (held in conjunction with the poster session) by entering the information for your artwork with your registration. Given the virtual format, submissions of art must be in digital picture / photo form, but artwork submission can also be submitted for the EGSA Fundraiser Auction and sold in auction as 3D pieces! Prizes will be awarded to the attendee favorites. Artwork submissions will be by Google Drive, detailed instructions coming soon. More details coming soon! Please stay tuned for details on the Diversity Committee sessions and this year's keynote speaker. We've been honored to have some excellent speakers at this event including: Dr. Mehana Vaughan (U Hawai`i Manoa), Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe (UC Merced), and Dr. Meg Lowman (California Academy of Sciences). Please contact this year's GSSE Chairs Lauren Redosh and David Mitchell with any questions!
